Delivery Update

  • March 14, 2022

6,500 people a week are benefiting from a FoodCycle food parcel

Over the past few months, FoodCycle has been faced with its biggest challenge yet, having to completely adapt the operational model, whilst still being able to get food to vulnerable guests.

After numerous meetings; adapting to daily changes and government guidelines; collaborating with numerous charities, supporters and organisations and working with our dedicated volunteers, we are now delivering food parcels in a number of regions.

Since starting the new service, we have already saved over 46 tonnes of surplus food and each week we are making 2,500 deliveries that benefit over 6,500 people.

We have also used this as an opportunity to call our guests and update them on moving to a delivery service and they have really appreciated the call – a service we are looking to expand.

Not only are we serving guests that would regularly attend our community meals but we have seen a big demand from people that have never engaged with FoodCycle before.  We are facing challenging times and more people than ever are struggling to afford food.

Help us expand our delivery service to more areas across the country by making a donation now.  You’ll be helping us to give food parcels to more people as well as giving them the opportunity to receive a friendly call from one of our volunteers.

A big part of getting the delivery service up and running has been the incredible generosity of others, so we would like to say a special thank you to:

Changing Lives and FareShare North East for food supply, venue space and help with bagging up food parcels in Newcastle.

Circuit, who have provided their delivery app for free, helping us carry out deliveries as efficiently as possible.

Clarkes Travel, in Birmingham for supporting with food collection and deliveries.

Community Fibre, Jo who headed up the organisation of the FoodCycle deliveries in Norwood Junction and the drivers Darren, Paul, David and Jack.

COOK, for donating frozen meals to be delivered to people in Clapham, London.

Fooditude who cooked additional meals to deliver with our food parcels in Norwood Junction.

Just Eat and Stuart, for supporting with deliveries in Birmingham.

Magic Hat in Newcastle for helping with food supply and bagging up food parcels.

Revol Ltd. for donating free hand sanitiser in Newcastle.

Newcastle City Council for referring guests and volunteer support.

North East Controls Ltd who have made a donation to support the deliveries in Newcastle.

Your Homes for helping with drivers in Newcastle.

Food Donations
FareShare, The Bread and Butter Thing, City Harvest, The Felix Project and Tropicana who have been supporting with the supply of surplus food.  In Birmingham, Oaklands International, Holy Moly, TKMaxx, Mindful Chefs and local supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and chips shops have all donated food for inclusion in the food parcels.

Venues
For allowing us to continue using the space to pack the food parcels – Barnwell Baptist Church (Cambridge), Barton Hill Settlement (Bristol), Booths (Media City, Salford), Creative Living Centre (Prestwich), Finsbury Park Community Hub, Hackney City Farm (Hackney), Longbridge Methodist Church (Birmingham), Oasis (Norwood Junction), Nexus Methodist Church (Bath), Our Lady of Fatima RC Church (East Action), Park Road Baptist Church (Peterborough), Pier Avenue Baptist Church (Clacton-on-Sea), Quakers Friends Meeting House (Norwich), St Cuthbert’s Parish Church (Kilburn) and Wonford Community Centre (Exeter).

*Please note that these statistics and supporting companies will be regularly updated as the service expands – Last updated 4th May 2020.
