Danilo Cortellini cooks meals for vulnerable people in London

Last week, Hackney residents were treated to an extra special three-course meal alongside their normal food parcel delivery.

Head Chef at The Italian Embassy, Danilo Cortellini rustled up a delicious pasta bake, truffle polenta and an irresistible Italian sponge.   The meals were then packed up by our volunteers and delivered to the doorsteps of those people who have been referred to us.

As a special treat, FoodCycle Patron Danilo asked if he could support by cooking meals, he said:  “I am very passionate about the work of FoodCycle, I have previously volunteered at their community meals and have seen firsthand how much their guests rely on receiving a regular, nutritious and healthy meal.  I have more time on my hands at the moment, so I wanted to use it to do something to support people during this difficult time.”

Danilo is planning on cooking 100 meals each week that will be delivered with our food parcels in Hackney and in Marylebone.

Joined in the kitchen by Chiara and Jiri, Danilo and his team have the full support of their trusted suppliers and Italian Ambassador, Raffaele Trombetta.  They are all pleased that they can be productive and put the Embassy’s kitchen to good use.
